The word ‘chakra’ is derived from Sanskrit and means ‘a wheel’ or ‘circle’. There are seven major chakras. These chakras are powerhouses of energy which work with the physical body to energise and activate it. Each chakra radiates one of the spectral colours. In Indian philosophy the major chakras are symbolised as lotus flowers, each bearing a specific number of petals.
The Base Chakra. The Sanskrit name given to this chakra is Muladhara, mula meaning ‘root’ and adhara meaning ‘base’ or ‘support’. The chakra is situated at the base of the spine and is usually depicted with four petals radiating its dominant colour, red. It is associated with the element earth and the sense of smell. The base chakra has a very close connection with the physical body, providing it with vitality and strength. To work with this chakra you can do a meditation with the colour red. You can make your own coloured red base chakra drawing to work with as you are guided. You can also connect to the crystals, hematite and red jasper.

Today, red jasper is still known as the stone of endurance, a gentle but vital, stimulator of chi, or life force, bringing physical strength and energy, stamina, focus and determination. Red Jasper activates the Base Chakra and stimulates the rise of the kundalini energy throughout the chakras, cleansing and strengthening the aura. A valuable stone of protection. It carries a strong spiritual grounding vibration, and creates a strong connection to the earth. Because red jasper is strongly tied to the root chakra, red jasper can also be used as a chakra stone, and therefore combined with other stones that represent the power of your other chakras.
